Cheese with Sambal
This is a type of Gouda to which the spicy Asian sauce sambal is added. The Dutch love of Indonesian-style sambal dates back to the country’s colonial history in the Dutch East Indies. The sambal gives the cheese an orange colour with visible specks of red chilli.
Pasteurised cow’s milk, salt, starter, chillies, rennet, preservative (E251), colour (E160b).
Fat in dry matter : min. 48%
Fat absolut : ca. 30%
In the Netherlands, labelling usually indicates the fat content in the dry matter: this remains the same as the cheese ages, while the absolute fat content increases because riper cheese contains less moisture.
